WATER RUNNING?
Start with the part of the house you are standing in. Each step has a photo so you can stop when you find yours.

Close the small valve under the sink or behind the toilet. Turn it clockwise.

Most houses around here have a crawl space. The main comes through the foundation wall on the side facing the street. The valve is usually within a few feet of where it comes in, often just inside the crawl space door. Bring a flashlight.

Look near the floor, often by the water heater or the washer.

Look on the garage wall, in a utility closet, or beside the water heater.

A lever handle takes a quarter turn so it sits across the pipe. A round wheel turns clockwise until it stops. Do not force it.

The water meter box near the street has a shutoff. The water department will close it if you call them.

Switch off the breaker marked well or pump, then close the valve beside the pressure tank.

Open the lowest faucet in the house. A laundry sink is a good choice. Set a gas water heater to vacation, or switch an electric one off at the breaker.
IF YOU SMELL GAS
On any visit, we find your shutoff and hang a yellow tag on it.
